Guides Cell cams without a subscription
Cell cams without a subscription Who has a free plan and what it covers
Of the four brands we track, only Spypoint has a free cellular plan: 100 photos a month per camera, with no fee and no commitment. Moultrie says every cellular camera needs a paid subscription. Tactacam's cheapest plan is $5 a month and Browning's is $5.99 a month.
“Is there a cell cam without a subscription?” is a perennial r/trailcam question (Wireless No Subscription Trail Cam, Looking for a cam with a free data plan). For cellular cameras the honest answer is: one brand has a free tier, and the rest start at $5 to $9.99 a month.

What Free Gets You
Spypoint’s Free plan sends 100 photos a month from each camera at no cost and with no commitment. Two Spypoint cameras in our database run on it: the Flex-M and the Flex-M2, both $59.99 when we checked. Over two years, a Flex-M2 on the free tier costs only its sticker price; the cheapest paid alternative here, a Tactacam Reveal X 3.0 on Starter billed yearly, comes to $209.99.
What free doesn’t include: more than 100 photos, Full-HD photos ($5 for 50) or video ($5 for 20). Spypoint’s Insiders Club makes Basic free and discounts the higher tiers, but Spypoint’s own pages disagree on its price ($99.99 in a May 2026 blog post, $119.99 on the plan listing).
When Paying Makes Sense
- Busy sites. A camera on a feeder or field edge can blow through 100 photos fast. Moultrie Standard’s 1,000 images is ten times the free cap.
- Several cameras. Tactacam discounts extra cameras ($5 a month each on Starter); Moultrie’s Pro Series adds cameras at $7.99. See the calculator.
- On-demand photos and Live View. These are paid features on every brand that offers them.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Cameras
Cameras that connect over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth instead of cellular don’t need a data plan, but they only reach your phone at short range (Do Wifi trail cams require a subscription?). They’re a different category, and we don’t cover them yet.
Common questions
Can I use a cellular trail camera without a plan?
It depends on the model, so check the maker’s support pages before you buy. Moultrie’s plan page states that all cellular connected devices require a paid subscription.
What's the catch with Spypoint's free plan?
It’s capped at 100 photos a month per camera, and the photos sent are standard-resolution. Full-HD photos cost $5 for 50 and videos $5 for 20. Paid tiers start at $5 a month or $48 a year for 250 photos.
Are "unlimited data for life" cell cams real?
Some lesser-known brands advertise them (one r/trailcam thread). We haven’t verified any of those offers, and none of the four brands we track sells one.
