Gifts for the deer hunter Cell cams with the plan counted

The best cell cam gift for most deer hunters is the Tactacam Reveal X 4.0: $129.99, or $184.99 with a year of Tactacam's Starter plan. Under $100, the Moultrie Edge 3 Pro ($99.99 on sale) won TrailCamPro's 2026 cellular detection category, but its plan adds $107.88 a year. If you don't want to hand over a monthly bill, the Spypoint Flex-M2 ($59.99) runs on a free 100-photo plan.

How these picks work: every price comes from the maker's own page and every plan tier used here from the maker's price list, all re-checked October 22, 2026. Test results are TrailCamPro's, credited and linked. We don't do hands-on testing, and no retailer pays for a spot on this list.

Under $100

Best under $100: Moultrie Edge 3 Pro

Why: it won the cellular detection category of TrailCamPro’s 2026 shootout, and Moultrie has it at $99.99 (regular $139.99) as of October 22.

  • Maker claims: 0.30 s trigger, 100 ft detection, 100 ft no-glow flash.
  • The catch is the plan. Every Moultrie cellular camera needs a paid plan. Standard (1,000 images) is $107.88 a year, so the gift comes to $207.87 with a year and $315.75 over two.
  • Full sheet: Edge 3 Pro.

Where to buy · Moultrie Edge 3 Pro: $99.99 sale (regular $139.99) on the maker's site (checked 2026-10-22). No retailer link yet.

The no-subscription gift: Spypoint Flex-M2

Why: at $59.99 it’s the cheapest camera here, and Spypoint’s Free tier sends 100 photos a month at $0. Nobody inherits a bill.

  • Maker claims: 0.4 s trigger, 90 ft detection and low-glow flash, 1080p video with sound, dual SIM, USB-C.
  • Caveat: no independent test yet. The original Flex-M it replaces recovered slowly between photos (65.7 s) and ran 3.3 months on AAs in TrailCamPro’s test. If 100 photos a month runs out, Basic is $48 a year for 250.
  • In stock at $59.99 (was $79.99) on Spypoint’s site when we checked October 22. Full sheet: Flex-M2.

Where to buy · Spypoint Flex-M2: $59.99 (was $79.99) on the maker's site (checked 2026-10-22). No retailer link yet.

Also $99.99: the Tactacam Reveal X 3.0 is the cheapest to run of the paid-plan cameras ($154.99 with a year of Starter), but it tested at 60 ft of detection against a “96 ft+” claim. The Moultrie Edge 4 ($99.99, regular $129.99) adds IP67 sealing and a solar kit option, on the same Moultrie plans. r/trailcam asks this exact question often: any good 4G trail cameras under $100?

Under $150

  • Plan: Starter, 250 photos, $55 a year. $184.99 with a year, $239.99 over two.
  • $129.99 list. Full sheet: Reveal X 4.0.

  • Plan: Strike Force Wireless Tracker, 250 images, $5.99 a month per camera, with no yearly price listed. $221.87 with a year.
  • $149.99 MSRP. Full sheet: Defender Pro Scout Max HD.

Where to buy · Browning Defender Pro Scout Max HD: $149.99 MSRP on the maker's site (checked 2026-10-22). No retailer link yet.

Under $250

Best under $250: Tactacam Reveal Pro 4.0

  • $159.99, or $214.99 with a year of Starter. If they won’t use Live View or no-glow, the Reveal X 4.0 tested faster for $30 less.
  • Full sheet: Reveal Pro 4.0.

Where to buy · Tactacam Reveal Pro 4.0: $159.99 on the maker's site (checked 2026-10-22). No retailer link yet.

Two cameras for two stands

Hunters rarely stop at one cell cam (how do people afford 10?). Two maker two-packs fit this budget:

  • Tactacam Reveal X 4.0 two-pack, $239.99. Tactacam prices an extra camera on the account at $55 a year on Starter, so two cameras and a year of plan come to $349.99.
  • Moultrie Edge 3 two-pack, $149.99. Moultrie Standard is $107.88 a year per camera, so two cameras and a year of plan come to $365.75.

Maker list price plus the cheapest paid tier, billed yearly where the maker offers it (Browning lists monthly prices only, so a year is 12 months). Plan prices from each maker's plan page, checked Oct 22, 2026; sources and multi-camera pricing are on plan costs.

How to give the plan. Plans are set up in the maker’s app (Reveal, Moultrie Mobile, Spypoint, Strike Force Wireless) on the account the camera is registered to. We didn’t find a plan gift card on the maker pages we checked, so the simple way is to pay for the first year when the hunter activates the camera. Before you buy, ask which carrier has bars where they hunt and check the camera’s bands with the Carrier Fit Checker.

No-subscription option

Of the four brands we track, only Spypoint has a free plan: 100 photos a month per camera, standard resolution. Full-HD photos are $5 for 50. That makes the Spypoint Flex-M2 the only gift here with no running cost. Moultrie’s plan page says every cellular camera needs a paid subscription. More in cell cams without a subscription.

Add-ons that fit

Small extras, matched to what each camera takes (from the maker documents on each spec sheet). We haven’t priced these except where the maker lists a price.

  • Lithium AA batteries. TrailCamPro’s battery figures for the Tactacam cameras are on lithium AAs. The Reveal X 4.0 and Reveal Pro 4.0 take 12 AA. Moultrie’s Edge 3 support article says not to use rechargeable AAs in it.
  • A memory card, only for cameras that take one. The Flex-M2 takes microSD up to 512 GB and the Browning SDXC up to 512 GB. The Tactacam cameras have 8 GB built in with an optional SD card. The Edge 3 uses built-in memory, so skip the card.
  • Power. Moultrie sells a solar conversion kit for the Edge 4 ($59.99 on Moultrie’s site). The Flex-M2 takes Spypoint’s LIT-22 rechargeable pack, and the Tactacam cameras accept 12 V external power. See battery life.

For the hunting camp

Cell cams need signal; radios don’t. For a hunting camp gift, our sister site’s walkie-talkie gift guide covers no-license FRS radios and GMRS sets, with the license math and real range explained.

Common questions

Is a cellular trail camera a good gift for a deer hunter?

Yes, if the hunter has signal where they hunt and knows a plan comes with it. A cell cam sends photos to a phone app, so they can watch a stand without walking in. Check the camera’s LTE bands against their carrier first; see LTE bands and carriers.

Do I have to pay for the plan too?

Someone does. Tactacam, Moultrie and Browning cameras need a paid plan to send photos; only Spypoint has a free tier (100 photos a month). The plan is set up in the maker’s app on the hunter’s account, so covering it means paying for the first year when they activate the camera.

What's the best trail camera gift under $100?

The Moultrie Edge 3 Pro at its $99.99 sale price, if they’ll pay for Moultrie’s plan ($107.88 a year on Standard). For the lowest running cost, the Spypoint Flex-M2 is $59.99 with a free 100-photo plan, and the Tactacam Reveal X 3.0 is $99.99 with a $55-a-year plan.

Can two cameras share one plan?

Mostly no; plans are priced per camera. Tactacam adds extra cameras to the same account ($55 a year each on Starter, less than a second full plan on the higher tiers). Moultrie Standard is per camera, while its Pro Series adds cameras at $7.99 a month each. Spypoint sells one plan per camera, and Browning says subscription data is per camera and not shared. See plan costs.
