Guides Trigger Speed: Tested vs Claimed
Trigger speed tested vs claimed Cellular trail cameras ranked on published tests
The fastest tested cell cam in our database is the Browning Defender Pro Scout Max HD at 0.1 s. The Tactacam Reveal X 4.0 is next at 0.29 s and recovers in 11.1 s, against 65.7 s for the Spypoint Flex-M.
Where these numbers come from: each tested figure is TrailCamPro's published result, linked on every row. Maker figures are claims from the brand's page. We don't test cameras ourselves.
Trigger is the delay from motion to photo. Recovery is the wait before the next photo. Lower is faster on both charts.
Tested trigger speed
TrailCamPro tested an earlier version of the Browning Defender Pro Scout Max HD; Browning’s 2025 reengineered model may differ (spec sheet).
Tested recovery time
The Spypoint Flex-M waits about six times longer between photos than the Tactacam 4.0 cameras, so a group of deer can walk through between shots.
Not tested yet
These cameras have only a maker claim so far. The Moultrie Edge 3 Pro won the cellular detection category in TrailCamPro’s 2026 shootout, which ranks detection, not trigger time.
- Moultrie Edge 2 Pro: maker claims 0.30 s
- Moultrie Edge 3: maker claims 0.50 s
- Moultrie Edge 3 Pro: maker claims 0.30 s
- Moultrie Edge 4: maker claims 0.40 s
- Moultrie Edge 4 Pro: maker claims 0.30 s
- Spypoint Flex-M2: maker claims 0.4 s

Common questions
What is a good trigger speed for a trail camera?
Every tested camera here fires in 0.4 s or less, which is quick enough for a feeder or scrape. On a trail where deer walk through, the faster cameras catch more of the animal in frame.
What is recovery time?
How long the camera waits before it can take the next photo. It decides whether you get the second deer in a group. Makers rarely publish it; TrailCamPro measures it.
Are maker trigger claims accurate?
Mostly close. Tactacam’s Reveal X 4.0 claims under 0.3 s and tested 0.29 s; the Reveal Pro 4.0 makes the same claim and tested 0.4 s. We haven’t found a published independent trigger figure for Moultrie’s Edge cameras yet.
